Shawn Vento, Head of Boarding


Shawn Vento is from Etobicoke, Ontario, Canada. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Physical Health and Education from the University of Toronto, a master’s degree in Multidisciplinary Studies with Educational Leadership from SUNY Buffalo State and a professional certification with Ontario College of Teachers . Shawn joined KISJ in 2015.

Elizabeth Maltby, High School Dean of Boarding

 

Elizabeth Maltby is from Kalamazoo, Michigan. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Saint Mary’s College, Notre Dame, and joined KISJ in 2013.

Kimberly Crockett, High School Associate Dean of Boarding


Kimberly Crockett is from Chicago. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Social Science from the University of Maryland University College, and is currently finishing a Master of Education in Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment from Walden University. Kimberly joined KISJ in 2016.

I think everyone should read… The Art of Happiness by His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Dr. Howard Cutler.

Outside of school, I most enjoy… Studying business and working on new projects, hiking, watching Korean dramas, and having a great cup of tea and interesting conversation.

Nicole Dines, Elementary and Middle School Dean of Boarding


Nicole Dines is from Martin, Tennessee. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design from the University of Tennessee, a professional certification for Middle Years 4–8 and Art K–12, and is currently undertaking a master’s degree in Educational Administration at Ball State University. Nicole joined KISJ in 2014.

Outside of school, I most enjoy… spending time with family, running, yoga, hiking, camping, and cooking.

Caitlin Wampler, Elementary and Middle School Associate Dean of Boarding


Caitlin Wampler is from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, United States of America. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Mathematics from Iowa State University. Caitlin joined KISJ in 2015.

Madeleine Fivaz, Middle School Boarding Specialist


Madeleine Fivaz is from Virginia, Free State, South Africa.  She holds a bachelor’s degree in Human Movement Science from the University of the Free State, and completed her Postgraduate Certificate in Education through the University of South Africa.  Madeleine joined KISJ in 2017.

Outside of school, I most enjoy... traveling to unknown places, camping next to the ocean, hiking through untouched nature, and paddle boarding on open water.  I also enjoy being in good company, having fun and watching movies.

I think everyone should read….The Linguistic Temperature. I highly recommend this book to anyone having problems with family or friends. This book is about how we communicate.

Andrew Cantarutti, Middle School Boarding Specialist


Andrew is from Aurora, Ontario, Canada. He holds a bachelor’s degree in History from Queen’s University and a master’s degree in the Humanities from York University.  Andrew joined KISJ in 2016.

Musumbi is from Winston Salem, North Carolina and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics and Urban Studies from University of Pittsburgh. Musumbi joined KISJ in 2017.

Daniel Han is from Bayside, New York. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from the University of Rochester, a professional certification in Childhood Education grades 1-6, a professional certification in Mathematics for grades 7-12, and a Master of Arts in Teaching. Edward Cho, Middle School Boarding Advisor


Edward Cho was born in Gwangju, S.Korea. He spent most of his life in Busan. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Kyoungsung university.  Edward joined KISJ in 2011.

Yiming Liu, Middle School Boarding Advisor


Yiming Liu is from Duluth, Minnesota, USA. He holds a bachelor degree in Chemistry and Asian Studies from St. Olaf College. Yiming joined KISJ in 2016.


I think everyone should learn... how to play chess, as it’s a good way to keep your mind sharp at any age.

Heather Rogers, Middle School Boarding Specialist


Heather Rogers is from Leeds in the north of England.  She holds a bachelor’s degree in Human Geography from the University of Sheffield, UK and is new to KISJ this year.

Outside of school, I most enjoy… travelling to new places, cooking food I have discovered from my travels, swimming outdoors in the sunshine and spending time with my family and friends.

I’m inspired by….. “Kid, you’ll move mountains!”, my current favourite quote from Oh, The Places You'll Go! By Dr Seuss.  If you haven’t read this, go read it now! (it’s definitely not just for kids!)




Jooey Hyun Joo Kim, Middle School Boarding Advisor


Jooey Kim is from Seoul, Korea. She holds a bachelor’s degree in History from Kookmin University and joined KISJ in 2016.


Outside of school, I most enjoy… Swimming, traveling, loving nature and pets. And try to do new things especially sports, outdoors.

Ben Fisk, High School Boarding Specialist


Ben Fisk is from Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with Philosophy and a Master of Arts in Social Work from the University of Hull. Ben joined KISJ in 2017.

I think everyone should read... as much poetry as humanly possible. It is the best way to explore language, culture and the connections that bind us all. As Leonardo Da Vinci said: “Poetry is nearer to vital truth than history.”


Outside of school, I most enjoy... seeing new places and doing new things, martial arts, football (or soccer), great food and laughing non-stop with friends and family.


I'm inspired by... Lemn Sissay. Taken into care at the age of 2 months he overcame tremendous challenges to become an award-winning poet, writer and broadcaster, a staunch advocate for the rights of children in care, and now the Chancellor of the University of Manchester. His words “I am not defined by my scars but my incredible ability to heal” continue to inspire me.

Jessica Sheridan grew up in Ottawa and Windsor, Ontario, Canada. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Global Development with a focus on cross-cultural learning and a Bachelor of Education from Queen’s University. She fell in love with Jeju after working at an international school in Korea, and joined KISJ in 2016.

I think everyone should read... A Mother’s Reckoning by Su Klebold. This book is a memoir of the mother of a child who committed a serious crime and her coming to grips with the associated grief and shame.


Outside of school, I most enjoy... swimming in the ocean, hiking and reading books.


I’m inspired by... nature. It seems more alive when I feel the sublime, the vastness, the grandeur, and the freshness of nature.




Sophia Yeon Sik Jeon, High School Boarding Advisor


Sophia Jeon is from Seoul, Korea. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Statistics from the University of Dongguk, and is currently enrolled in a master of education program. Sophia joined KISJ in 2017.

Britney Oh, High School Boarding Advisor

 

Britney Oh was born and grew up in Busan, but lived in Toronto, Canada for over a decade. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Administrative Studies from York University, and joined KISJ in 2016.

I think everyone should read… Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer, and Wonder by R.J. Palacio.

Outside of school, I most enjoy… hiking oreum, trying new restaurants, doing yoga, reading, and watching movies.

I’m inspired by… the beauty of nature, and people I meet in my travels and hearing their stories: they inspire me to travel more and be braver in trying new things.

I think everyone should read… The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger.

Outside of school, I most enjoy… watching movies.

I’m inspired by… Edgar Degas. In the 1870s, he produced approximately 1,500 works of ballet dancers; he painted the dancers practicing backstage, alluding to the beauty in long processes that create satisfying results. I am inspired by those who cherish not only the result but also the practice behind the scenes.



Timothy Yu, High School Boarding Advisor


Timothy Yu is from Toronto, Ontario, Canada.  He graduated from York University in Toronto with a Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology and Health Sciences and is currently pursuing his education degree.  Timothy joined KISJ in 2017.
