Julia Reynen, Middle School Principal

Julia Reynen is from London, Ontario, Canada, but most recently worked in Jakarta, Indonesia. She holds a master’s degree in Educational Leadership with Principal Certification from The College of New Jersey, a bachelor’s degree in Primary/Junior Education from OISE, University of Toronto, as well as a Bachelor of Arts from Queen’s University, Canada. Julia joined KISJ in 2017–18.


I think everyone should read… anything by acclaimed author Malcolm Gladwell; I particularly enjoyed Outliers, and more recently, David and Goliath.

Outside of school, I most enjoy… being active and exploring new places, as well as being in awe of the great outdoors.  

I'm inspired by… the resilience of others.




Bryan Keith, Middle School Associate Principal

Bryan Keith is from Baltimore, Maryland, but most recently worked in Shanghai China. He holds a master’s degree in Educational Administration from Michigan State University and a bachelor’s degree of Science in Physical Education from Towson University, and joined KISJ in 2016.


I think everyone should read… The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway.

Outside of school, I most enjoy… spending time with my family, mountain biking, beach volleyball, tennis, and golf.

Paul Boland, MS English and Social Studies

Paul Boland is from St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada, but most recently worked in Geoje, South Korea. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and History and a Bachelor of Education from Memorial University of Newfoundland. He is currently undertaking a master’s degree in Educational Leadership. Paul joined KISJ in 2017–18.


I think everyone should read… Long walk to Freedom by Nelson Mandela and The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank.

Outside of school, I most enjoy… ice hockey, golf, and camping with my family and friends.

Mark Breckell, Physical Education/Health

Mark Breckell was born and raised in  New Hampshire before attending Palm Beach Atlantic University in West Palm Beach, Florida where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education. He taught and coached in Florida and Egypt before joining KISJ in 2014.

Outside of school, I most enjoy… traveling, coaching and spending time with family.

I’m inspired by… passionate and well-coached teams in all sports.




Stacy Breckell, Math

Stacy Breckell is from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, but was raised in Kansas City, Missouri and still visits every summer to see family. She holds a Bachelor of Educational Studies from the University of Missouri-Columbia, and Post-Baccalaureate Certification in Elementary Education and Middle School Math from Avila University. Stacy joined KISJ in 2014, following four years at Cairo American College in Egypt.

I think everyone should read… Raising Cain: Protecting the Emotional Life of Boys by Michael Thompson and Dan Kindlon.

Outside of school, I most enjoy… relaxing at the beach, eating sushi, traveling to new destinations, and spending time with my husband and son.

Alisha Brizicky, MS English / ELL

Alisha Brizicky is from Nashua, New Hampshire, but has worked in New York and Beijing. She holds a master’s degree in Library and Information Science and a bachelor’s degree in English from St. John’s University. Alisha joined KISJ in 2017–18.

Tania Campbell MS English / ELL  

Tania Campbell is from New Zealand and most recently worked in Seoul. She has a master’s degree in anthropology and a bachelor’s degree in anthropology and English from the University of Otago. She also holds a graduate diploma in teaching from the New Zealand Graduate School of Education and a CELTA certificate from Cambridge English.

Kyunghoon Cha, Grade 7 and 8 Korean Social Studies

Kyunghoon Cha is from Jeju, Korea. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Social Studies from Jeju National University, and joined KIS Jeju in 2017

I think everyone should read...Samgukji(Romance of the three kingdoms) by Kwanjung Na. Outside of school, I most enjoy...play with my family. I’m inspired by...books that give positive effect.



Derek Cour, Middle School Band

Derek Cour was born and raised in a suburb of Seattle, Washington (go Seahawks!), and spent seven years teaching internationally in Dubai. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Music Performance with a teaching certification and a master’s degree in Wind Conducting, both from Central Washington University.

I think everyone should read… Adrift: 76 Days Lost at Sea by Steven Callahan, and Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer.

Outside of school, I most enjoy… watching sports, travelling to new and exciting places, spending time with friends and family, and (of course!) playing and listening to music.

Matthew Cushman, Physical Education/Health

Matthew Cushman grew up in Southern California and has family in Angwin, California and Moscow, Russia. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Southwestern Adventist University. Matthew joined KISJ in 2015, after several years in Cairo, Egypt.

Benedict Dingle, MS Drama

Benedict Dingle is from Woodstock, Canada. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Theatre Acting from Dalhousie University, and a bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Toronto. Benedict joined KISJ in 2014.

Brian Elshoff, MS Math

Brian Elshoff is from Rochester Hills, Michigan. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Education from University of Wisconsin–La Crosse, a master’s degree in Middle Level Education from Western Michigan University, and an Education Specialist Degree in Educational Administration from Oakland University. Seth Hills, MS English and Social Studies

Seth Hills is from Camano Island, Washington. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education from Grand Canyon, and a COETAIL certification from SUNY Buffalo. Seth joined KISJ in 2015.

Michael Keogh, MS English/ELL

Michael Keogh is from Washington Crossing, Pennsylvania. He holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Boston College and a master’s degree in TESOL from The College of New Jersey. Michael joined KISJ in 2014.

Eric Kunik, MS Counselor

Eric Kunik was born in Saginaw, Michigan but moved to Phoenix, Arizona after college and joined KISJ from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He holds a Masters of Arts in Education Counseling from the University of Phoenix and a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Michigan State University. Eric joined KISJ in 2016.


I think everyone should read… The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger, David and Goliath by Malcolm Gladwell, and The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand.

Outside of school, I most enjoy… spending time with my family, being outdoors, and keeping myself healthy.

I’m inspired by… my son, whose energy never runs out and keeps me young.


Whitney Little, Middle School Technology Electives

Whitney Little is from Raleigh, North Carolina, but most recently worked in Sacramento, California. She holds a master’s degree in Liberal Studies from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and a bachelor’s degree in Middle Grades Education from North Carolina State University. Whitney joined KISJ in 2017–18.

Melanie MacCallum, MS Science

Melanie MacCallum is from Nova Scotia, Canada, but most recently worked in Bangkok, Thailand. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Science from Acadia University and a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Science Education from the University of New Brunswick. Melanie joined KISJ in 2017–18.


I think everyone should read… The Three Day Road by Joseph Boyden, as it is a poignant account of an often untold history of Canadian First Settlers in World War I.

Outside of school, I most enjoy… reading, trying new things, getting out in nature, and going on adventures with my biggest fan, Jon.

Neyda Moulier, MS Counselor

Neyda Moulier is originally from Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico. She grew up in Columbia, Maryland, and most recently worked in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. She holds a master’s degree in School Counseling from Loyola University Maryland, and a bachelor’s degree in Studio Art from the University of Maryland College Park. Neyda joined KISJ in 2017–18.

Outside of school, I most enjoy… the holistic practice of yoga, travel photography, exploring diverse cultures, and getting lost in nature.

Lucas Oren, MS Science

Lucas Oren is from Edgerton, Wisconsin. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse, 6–12 licenses for Science and ESL from the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater, and a Master of Science: Professional Education (MSPE) from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Lucas joined KISJ in 2013.

Outside of school, I most enjoy… cheering for the Wisconsin Badgers, Milwaukee Brewers, and Green Bay Packers; playing basketball, riding mops, bicycling, traveling, and trying new/strange food.

Jon Pleckaitis is from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, but most recently worked in Bangkok, Thailand. Pyong-Mun Yun, Physical Education

Mun is from Wellington, New Zealand, but most recently worked at Shanghai American School, China. He holds a Diploma of Teaching in Primary Education from the Wellington College of Education, a Bachelor of Education majoring in PE and Music from Victoria University, and a Strength and Conditioning License from the International Sports Science Association. Mun joined KISJ in 2017–18.

Arthur Scibal, Language Arts and Social Studies

Arthur Scibal is from Lititz, Pennsylvania, but most recently worked at Brent International School in Manila, Philippines. He is pursuing a second master's degree in Educational Leadership. He holds a master's degree from Framingham State College in International Education and a bachelor's degree in German and Economics from Mary Washington College. Arthur will join KISJ for the 2018-19 school year.

Outside of school, I most enjoy hiking, skiing and exploring new places with my wife and two small kids.

Kara O'Connor, MS Spanish Teacher


Kara O'Connor is a dual citizen from both the United States and Finland. Growing up, she lived in Alexandria, Virginia; Helsinki, Finland, and Vienna, Austria. She most recently worked at Brent International School in Manila, Philippines. She hold a master's degree in International Counseling from Lehigh University and a bachelor's degree in Spanish and Education from Mary Washington College. Kara will join the KISJ faculty in the school year 2018-2019.

Outside of school, I most enjoy spending time with my husband and two children, running, hiking, traveling and reading.

Jennifer Swinehart, Substitute Teacher

Jennifer Swinehart is from Racine, Wisconsin, but most recently spent 7 years in Hong Kong. She holds a bachelor's degree in both English and Political Science from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, and a teacher certification from Teach Now (Washington, D.C.). Jennifer joined KISJ in 2018-19.

I think everyone should read "The Color of Water" by James McBride and "Shantaram" by Gregory David Roberts.

Outside of school, I most enjoy cooking, traveling, reading, hitting the beach, and a good game of cribbage.

I'm inspired daily.... life abroad is full of surprises- some days are a win, others are not, but I find great joy in the adventure.



Kevin Kinahan, HS/MS Health & Physical Education

Kevin Kinahan is from Whitby, Ontario, Canada, but most recently worked in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. He holds a bachelor's degree in Health and Physical Education and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Toronto. Kevin joined KISJ in 2018.

Hilary Harveycutter, MS Design Learning

Hilary Harveycutter is from Charlottesville, Virginia, where she most recently taught. She holds a Master's degree in Teaching Secondary Social Studies from the University of Virginia, and a Bachelor's degree in Art History from the College of William and Mary. Hilary joined KISJ in 2018.


I think everyone should read "The Colour of Magic" by Terry Pratchett; it's such a gem!


Outside of school, I most enjoy indoor bouldering, outdoor sport climbing, wheel-thrown pottery, cycling, reading, and painting.


I'm inspired by the magnificence of those around me.


Tatiana Heckles, MS Learning Support

Tatiana Heckles is from equal parts Lancaster, Pennsylvania and Livingston, Montana and an Intervention Specialists for the public schools in both states. She had a Bachelors of Science in Education and a Degree in Special Education, both from Millersville University in Pennsylvania. International teaching took her to Venezuela and Shenzhen, China. She joined the KISJ team in 2018 with her chemist husband, Joe Catron.


She thinks everyone should read. Period. She is currently reading The Worst Hard Times, The Untold Story of the Great American Dustbowl, but will be on to something new next week. There is so much to learn.


She is inspired by students, young and old.



Nicole Kipfer, MS English and Social Studies

Nicole is from Aurora, ON, Canada, and has been working in Jeju, South Korea for the past year. She holds a master's degree in Teaching from the University of Toronto, and an honors bachelor's degree in Sociology and English Literature from the University of Western Ontario. She also holds a Certificate of Proficiency in Sociology from the University of Otago. Nicole joined KISJ in 2018.

Jonathan Blake “Bo” Shaw, MS Science

Jonathan, Bo, Shaw was born in Gadsden, Alabama in the United States but most recently worked in Alabama teaching science and coaching robotics teams. Bo holds a Bachelor of Science degree in General Science Education from Auburn University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business from Auburn University Montgomery. He has sixteen years of science education experience in Alabama. In addition to teaching science, he has coached robotics teams for five years. Bo joined KISJ in 2018.

Outside of school, I mostly enjoy...spending time with family, riding my motorcycle, DIY projects, and attempting to play tennis.

Tina Wang, MS Mathematics and Science


Tina is from Markham, Ontario, but most recently worked in Guangzhou, China. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Chemistry from Trent University, and a Bachelor of Education degree from Queen's University. Tina joined KISJ in 2018.

Eric Piccirelli, School-wide Orchestra

Eric Piccirelli grew up in Maryland and has lived in Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and London.  He holds a BA in Music Education from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County and holds a MA in Educational Technology from George Washington University.  He taught in Northern Virginia with Fairfax County Public Schools and the American Youth Philharmonic Orchestras while maintaining his own double bass studio. He later moved to London to work at the American School in London before joining KISJ in 2018.
