Sub Promotion





Emily Asad, Grade 11 English and AP English

Emily Asad was born in Guam and raised in Minnesota, but most recently worked in Florida. She holds a Bachelor’s in Secondary English Education from the University of South Florida as well as a Master’s in Creative Writing from National University in California. Emily joined KISJ in 2017–18.

It’s so hard to pick just one book to recommend! My favorite authors are Tamora Pierce, Anne McCaffrey, and Chris Crutcher, and I think everyone should read Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli.

Outside of school, I most enjoy… writing books, baking bread, and playing chess. 

I’m inspired by... snowflakes, fireplaces, and dark chocolate.



Kate Wilke, HS English and AP Seminar

Kate Wilke is originally from New York, but most recently worked in Managua, Nicaragua. She holds a Master of Arts in Teaching from Empire State College, and a Bachelors of Arts in Spanish and Philosophy from Molloy College. Kate joined KISJ in 2018. 

I think everyone should read "Ishmael" by Daniel Quinn. 

Outside of school, she most enjoys being active outdoors. 

I’m inspired by the hope and potential of rising generations, adversity as the best teacher, the simplicity, complexity, and beauty found in nature; and the power of individuals and communities to heal themselves and innovate sustainable solutions. 



Juliana Scrivner, Grade 9 English

Juliana Scrivner is from Tucson, Arizona , USA, but most recently worked in The Bahamas. She holds a master’s degree from Arizona State University, and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Arizona. Ms. Scrivner joined KISJ in 2018-19. 


She thinks everyone should read 'Yes Man' by Danny Wallace. 


Outside of school, she most enjoys cooking and eating new foods, hiking, snorkeling, reading, traveling, photography, and camping. She is most inspired by unexpected moments of silliness, a hearty laugh, and enthusiastic curiosity. 




Jon Pleckaitis, Grade 9 English and Film as Literature

Jon Pleckaitis is from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, but most recently worked in Bangkok, Thailand. He holds a bachelor’s degree in English and History from Carleton University, a Bachelor of Education from the University of New Brunswick, and a law degree from the University of Alberta. Jon joined KISJ in 2017–18.


I think everyone should read… Watership Down by Richard Adams and Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry.

Outside of school, I most enjoy… reading, following the NHL, and being dragged on adventures by my wife.

I'm inspired by… the power of words.


Cory Borisko, Grade 12 English, AP Literature and Composition


Cory Borisko is from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, but most recently worked in Jubail Saudi Arabia. I have an English and History degree from Trent University and a Guidance Qualification from Lakehead University. 


Cory will join KISJ in 2019. I think everybody should read "The Arrival" by Shaun Tan. Outside of school, I most enjoy baseball, time spent with family and photography. 


I'm inspired by my wife Natalie Bahen. She is a true Spartan warrior.




Randall Ball, Grade 9/10 English


Randall Ball was born in Jacksonville, Florida, and raised in Beaufort, South Carolina, in the USA, but most recently worked in Lahore, Pakistan. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in English from Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah, Georgia. Randall Ball joined KISJ in 2019-2020. 


I think everyone should read John Irving's "Setting Free the Bears," Pat Conroy's "The Prince of Tides," and Ken Kesey's "One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest." 


Outside of school, I most enjoy reading, cooking, music, college football, and playing with my two children. 


I'm inspired by literature, by travel, by food, and sometimes just by an everyday-life experience.



Kent Ewing, Grade 10 English


Kent is originally from Kansas City, Missouri, but has worked at international schools in Kenya, Kuwait, Hong Kong and Korea. He holds a master's degree in English literature from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and a BA in journalism from Northeastern University in Boston. Kent joined KISJ in 2018-19. 


I think everyone should read Haruki Murakami's 1Q84 because all true love stories take place in alternate realities and are worthy of 1,000+ pages. 


Outside of school, I most enjoy reading, jogging and hiking. 


I am inspired by anyone who wants to keep learning and growing, no matter his or her age.




Samantha Georgi Yearbook and Graphic Design

Samantha Georgi is from Lansing, Michigan. She holds a bachelor’s degree in History and English from Hillsdale College, and a Secondary Education certification from Michigan State University. Samantha joined KISJ in 2014.


I think everyone should read… The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien.

Outside of school, I most enjoy… singing, camping, photography, writing poems, cuddling with my cats, and travel.

I’m inspired by… nature! And the idea of journeying into the unknown.




Nickolas Harris AP Research, Debate and Psychology

Nickolas Harris is from Tokyo, Japan. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from UC Berkeley, and a master’s degree in International Education from The College of New Jersey. Nick joined KISJ in 2014.


I think everyone should read… How Soccer Explains the World by Franklin Foer.

Outside of school, I most enjoy… soccer. This includes watching, coaching, playing, and playing fantasy football: I come from a family of soccer coaches and coached professionally between careers in finance and teaching.

I’m inspired by… my father, Jose Mourinho, Noam Chomsky, Christopher Hitchens, Sam Harris, J.F.K., Yusuke Matsuda, Sir Alex Ferguson, Bernie Sanders, and John Dewey.




Jeff Cordeiro, Grade 11 US History and AP US History

Jeff Cordeiro is from sunny San Diego, California. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences and a master’s degree in Education from San Diego State University. Jeff joined KISJ in 2017–18.

I think everyone should read… The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown.

Outside of school, I most enjoy… golf, drinking coffee, eating good food, and having good conversations.

I’m inspired by… my children: my oldest son is a medical doctor and my daughter is a special education teacher in the United States. My youngest son just turned one, and along with my wife, is the “light of my life.”



Michael Razzari, AP Psychology and Global Studies 9

Mike Razzari is from Escalon, California, but has spent most of his teaching career in South Korea, China, and Taiwan. He holds a master's degree in Secondary Teaching, Learning, and Curriculum from Drexel University, and a bachelor's degree in Social Studies from California State University, Sacramento. Mike joined KIS in 2018.

I think everyone should read "What I Talk About When I Talk About Running" by Haruki Murakami.

Outside of school, I most enjoy spending time with my wife, visiting new locations, eating delicious food, being physically active, and exploring natural landscapes.

I'm inspired by simple acts of kindness and moments of solitude.



Daniel Shileny, Grade 9/10 Global Studies and Comparative Gov’t

Daniel Shileny is from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA, but most recently worked in Freeport in The Bahamas.  He holds a Bachelor's Degree in History from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Daniel joined KISJ in 2017-18.  

I think everyone should read "The World According to Garp" by John Irving.  

Outside of school, I most enjoy traveling and meeting new people.  I'm inspired by chasing new world experiences.





Benjamin Willis, Grade 10 Global Studies / AP World History


Ben Willis is from Athens, Georgia, but has worked in the panhandle of Florida, Daegu, and Gyeonggi-do for the past few years. He holds two bachelor’s degrees in History and Social Studies Education from the University of Georgia. Ben joined KISJ in 2019. 


I think everyone should read… ""The Sun Also Rises"" by Ernest Hemingway. 


Outside of school, I most enjoy… watching sports (Go Dawgs), listening to podcasts (anything history related), and traveling with my wife. 


I’m inspired by... watching my students master new skills that they thought were impossible and that sense of wonder you get when traveling in a new country for the first time.
