Joceyln Cochran, EC Specialist

Jocelyn Cochran grew up in Duke Center, Pennsylvania. She holds a bachelor's degree in Physical Education from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania and a substitute teaching license from the state of Missouri. Jocelyn joined KISJ in 2016.

I think everyone should read… Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White

Outside of school, I most enjoy… Beaches, hiking, cooking, relaxing, and enjoying time with friends and family.

I’m inspired by… My students. Their love for creativity and learning. 


Sohyun Kang, EC Specialist


Sohyun Kang is from Etobicoke, Ontario, Canada, but most recently worked in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Visual Art and Museum Studies from the University of Western Ontario, and a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Queen's University. Sohyun joined KISJ in 2019.


I think everyone should read Ish by Peter H. Reynolds.


Outside of school, I most enjoy any creative activities, board games, video games, hiking, scuba diving, and motorbiking!


I’m inspired by art, nature, and amazing people!



Cathleen Garcia, Elementary School Science Specialist


Cathleen Garcia is from Dallas, Texas, USA, but most recently worked in Bonn, Germany. I hold a Master of Arts in Teaching-Science Education from the University of Texas at Dallas, and a Bachelor's degree in Education Curriculum and Instruction from Texas A&M University. I joined KISJ in 2019-2020. 


I think everyone should read Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance by Robert Persig. There are lots of ideas for personal reflection on the meaning of quality and life. 


Outside of school I most enjoy gardening, socializing, and reading. 


I'm inspired by my father, who grew up poor, retired wealthy, and led a very interesting life. He was well loved by all.




Daniel Hallwood, ES Design Tech

Daniel Hallwood was a Third Culture Kid growing up, and is now a Third Culture Adult. Half-American and half-British, he was born and raised in Kodaikanal, India; like his students, he attended international schools and graduated from the American International School Chennai in 2003. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from Montserrat College of Art and Design, and a master’s degree from Buffalo University. Daniel joined KISJ in 2017–18. 


I think everyone should read… The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari by Robin Sharma. 

Outside of school, I most enjoy… cooking, golf, yoga, ultimate frisbee, travel, and long motorcycle adventures.

I'm inspired by… the creativity I’m exposed to everyday in my art room.



Nicole Dines, ES Art

Nicole Dines is from Martin, Tennessee. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design from the University of Tennessee, a professional certification for Middle Years 4–8 and Art K–12, and is currently undertaking a master’s degree in Educational Administration at Ball State University. Nicole joined KISJ in 2014.


I think everyone should read… Robert Jordan’s The Wheel of Time series.


Outside of school, I most enjoy… spending time with family, running, yoga, hiking, camping, and cooking.


I’m inspired by… Marie Curie’s words, “Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less.”



Francis Jaramillo, Music

Francis Jaramillo is from Detroit, Michigan. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Wayne State University, and joined KISJ in 2014-15.


I think everyone should read… Siddartha by Hermann Hesse.

Outside of school, I most enjoy… music.

I’m inspired by… life.


Layne Todd, Music

Layne Todd is from Greenville, Kentucky, but has most recently worked in Beijing, China. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Music Education and Euphonium Performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Layne joined KISJ in 2017–18.

I think everyone should read… How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie, because social skills are important and can be learned, even if they don’t come naturally.

Outside of school, I most enjoy… traveling to new places and documenting it with my camera, listening to music and to podcasts, and watching Kentucky basketball.

I’m inspired by… bold, creative, ambitious friends and colleagues who wholeheartedly believe that what they’re doing is the most important thing in the world. Conversely, I’m also inspired by nature because it reminds me that those ambitions are only a small part of a much larger picture.




John Elliott, Physical Education

John Elliott is from Prince Edward Island, Canada, but most recently worked in Dubai. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Education from Queen’s University, and a bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Criminology from Saint Mary’s University. John joined KISJ in 2017–18. 


I think everyone should read… Matilda by Roald Dahl.

Outside of school, I most enjoy… playing sports like hockey, baseball, and golf; playing chess; and traveling.

I’m inspired by… nature, my friends and family, and anybody trying to make the world a better place.


Rhys Meredith, Physical Education

Rhys Meredith is from Brighton in the UK and has been working in Qatar. He holds a PGCE in primary and a BSC in Marine Geography from the University of Cumbria. Rhys joined KISJ in 2018.

I think everyone should read Fantastic Mr Fox by Roald Dahl. It’s a true story of never giving up.

Outside of school I most enjoy sports, mainly soccer, rugby and boxing. Practicing massage therapy. Being outside and going to new places. Eating and drinking with friends and family.

I’m inspired by trying new things and wanting to challenge myself.



Scott Stewart, Environmental & Outdoor Education Leader and ES/MS Aquatics director

Scott Stewart is originally from Detroit, Michigan. He grew up in Westminster, Maryland, and most recently taught in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. He holds two bachelor’s degrees in Business Administration and Spanish from Mount Saint Mary’s University, as well as a teaching certification in Physical Education from the University of West Florida. He is a NOLS graduate, Wilderness First Responder, and Leave No Trace Master Educator. Scott joined KISJ in 2017–18.

I think everyone should read… Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer and Mountaineering: The Freedom of the Hills.

Outside of school, I most enjoy… rock climbing and rappelling, backpacking, kayaking and teaching others to love, respect and protect our environment.

I’m inspired by… my twin brother and his son, travel with my wife,  nature, wonder and fear.
