KISJ is proud to announce that a member of our first graduating class (2016) Mr. John Hong, has won a significant concession for all male Korean students studying at National University of Singapore. Being one of the top universities in ASEAN, NUS attracts a number of competitive applications from Korean students each year. However, due to the military obligation of these students, it has been difficult to complete their undergraduate program due to their mandatory military duty. Being an active participant in the NUS Student Council allowed Mr. Hong to advocate for other Korean nationals for full consideration of this concern. We are happy to say that as a result of Mr. Hong's advocacy, the Singapore Ministry of Education has approved long-term deferment extensions for Korean males starting the spring semester for NUS. This has inspired other universities in Singapore to consider introducing the same leave program. Thank you, Mr. Hong, for being such a responsible leader and advocate, and we encourage the Class of 2019 to please stay tuned for updates.
