Carl Brenneman, Middle School Principal

Carl Brenneman was born in the small town of Kalispell, Montana, home to many locally famous people and few of national standing. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education from the University of Montana Western, a Master of Humanities from California State University, Dominguez Hills, a master’s degree in Organization and Leadership from San Francisco University, and a Washington State Principal’s Certificate. Carl joined KISJ in 2012.

I think everyone should read… Born to Run by Chris McDougall, The Sea Runners by Ivan Doig, and Young Men and Fire by Norman McClean.

Outside of school, I most enjoy… being with my family, whether it’s playing at the beach, climbing an oreum, or traveling to new cities.

I’m inspired by… quiet wild places that have not been touched by humans in a long time; for me, the ancient rock cliff bands exposed to the elements above the treeline in Glacier National Park provide such a place.

Bina Shah, Middle School Associate Principal

Bina Shah is from St. Louis, Missouri. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Business and Marketing Education from the University of Missouri–Columbia, and a master’s degree in Education Administration from Lindenwood University. Bina joined KISJ in 2015.

I think everyone should read… The Counte of Monte Cristo by Alexander Dumas and Into the Wild by John Krakauer.

Outside of school, I most enjoy… anything that involves the outdoors: beach, sports events, picnics and BBQs, yoga, and traveling.

I’m inspired by… my parents. They taught me how to take chances, dream big, love deeply, stand up for my beliefs, navigate challenges, focus on the good, and have fun.

Mark Breckell, Physical Education

Mark Breckelle was born and raised in southwestern New Hampshire before attending Palm Beach Atlantic University in West Palm Beach, Florida where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education. He taught and coached in Florida and Egypt before joining KISJ in 2014.

I think everyone should read… Season of Life by Jeffrey Marx.

Outside of school, I most enjoy… traveling, coaching and spending time with family.

I’m inspired by… passionate and well-coached teams in all sports.

Stacy Breckell is from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, but was raised in Kansas City, Missouri and still visits every summer to see family. She holds a Bachelor of Educational Studies from the University of Missouri-Columbia, and Post-Baccalaureate Certification in Elementary Education and Middle School Math from Avila University. Stacy joined KISJ in 2014, following four years at Cairo American College in Egypt.

I think everyone should read… Raising Cain: Protecting the Emotional Life of Boys by Michael Thompson and Dan Kindlon.

Outside of school, I most enjoy… relaxing at the beach, eating sushi, traveling to new destinations, and spending time with my husband and son.

Jim Corton is from East Kingston, New Hampshire and Dallas, Texas. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from Keene State College and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Dallas.

Outside of school, I most enjoy… fishing, fly tying, travel, hiking, vertical running, and 5K races.

Derek Cour was born and raised in a suburb of Seattle, Washington (go Seahawks!), and spent seven years teaching internationally in Dubai. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Music Performance with a teaching certification and a master’s degree in Wind Conducting, both from Central Washington University.

I think everyone should read… Adrift: 76 Days Lost at Sea by Steven Callahan, Candide by Voltaire, and Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer.

Outside of school, I most enjoy… watching sports, travelling to new and exciting places, hanging out with friends and family, and (of course!) playing and listening to music.

Outside of school, I most enjoy… snowboarding, hiking, kayaking, fishing, camping, rafting, and traveling.

I’m inspired by… music. I love going to shows and music festivals. Bob Marley and Michael Franti are my favorite artists that deliver a similar message through music that I love.

Carlina Fiordilino is from Camano Island, Washington. She is also a Google Certified Teacher (GCT). Carlina joined KISJ in 2015.

Outside of school, I most enjoy… traveling and exploring, or simply hanging out with my boys and husband. At the end of the day it’s about the memories created.

Outside of school, I most enjoy… good food and drink, movies, working out and traveling. I love to experience different cultures, foods and new people.

Outside of school, I most enjoy… being outside and playing sports! Ultimate frisbee, paddle boarding, hiking, biking, volleyball, and tennis are a few of my favorite hobbies.

Mandy Lindsay calls Bundaberg, Australia home, but has lived in Colorado, the U.K., China, and the Republic of Nauru. She holds a master’s degree in Education (Learning Support/Special Needs/ESL) and a Bachelor of Education in Literacy, both from the University of Queensland; a Diploma of Teaching - Secondary from the Queensland Institute of Technology; and a TESOL Certificate IV. Mandy joined KISJ in 2016.

I think everyone should read… Poetry! And nothing beats a classic such as Pride and Prejudice or Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen!

Outside of school, I most enjoy… being creative, social and active. Learning new things, meeting new people and visiting new places keeps me busy.

I’m inspired by… positivity and people with a “can do” attitude! Mahatma Gandhi’s words are also powerful: “You must be the change you wish to see in the world.”

Mark Lindsay calls Bundaberg, Australia home, but has travelled and worked in Colorado, the U.K., China and the Republic of Nauru. He holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Biology/Chemistry from the University of Southern Queensland; a Graduate Diploma of Teaching: Secondary from Queensland University of Technology; and is currently undertaking a Master of Education: TESOL at the University of Southern Queensland. Mark joined KISJ in 2016.

I think everyone should read… at least one book of mystery, action and intrigue by authors such as Arthur Upfield (Cake in the Hatbox) or Tong Hillerman (A Thief of Time).

Outside of school, I most enjoy… the natural environment; gardening; furniture restoration; cricket and rugby; reading; and working with others in a community service capacity.

I’m inspired by… Vincent Lingiari and Karl Kruszelnicki, people who can see things from different perspectives in order to bring real change to our world.

Andrea Martin, Middle School Counselor

Andrea Martin was born in Florida and raised in Nairobi, Kenya, before returning to the United States for college. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Goshen College, and a master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Chatham University, and is working toward a master’s-level certificate in Interpersonal Neurobiology at Portland State University. Andrea joined KISJ in 2015.

I think everyone should read… children’s books with messages that we can all learn from. It is hard to choose just one, but what comes to mind is No Matter What by Debi Gliori.

Outside of school, I most enjoy… spending time with my family, exploring new places, and embarking on adventures big and small.

Jennifer Polizos was born and raised in the United States, but has spent the last seven years abroad. She holds bachelor’s degrees in Special Education and in History from Felician College, and a master’s degree in Technology Integration from Lesley University. Jennifer joined KISJ in 2015, following four years at a school in Zambia, where she served as MYP coordinator and an IT Design and Humanities teacher.

Outside of school, I most enjoy… being with my family, swimming, being at the beach or in the outdoors, and shopping.

I’m inspired by… the proverb, “There is nothing noble in being superior to some other person. The true nobility is in being superior to your previous self.”

I’m inspired by… the quote, “Family isn’t always blood. It’s the people in your life who want you in theirs. The ones who accept you for who you are. The ones who would do anything to see you smile and who love you no matter what.” People are the most important “things in life; take time to appreciate the ones in your life that truly matter.

She has worked at an Outward Bound School and the National Outdoor Leadership School. Suzanne joined KISJ in 2015.
