The Elementary School is a learning community that encourages students to work together, develop compassion, and to actively contribute. Our students are empowered to work and support each other through play and academics, while maintaining positive behavior. Learning within an international community, our students also build the social skills and relationships that are necessary in an ever-changing world.
Middle school is the ideal opportunity for young adolescents to explore who they are and how they fit into the world. Through the iterative process, students will come to an understanding of who they are as learners, what they’re passionate about and ultimately how they will contribute to a better tomorrow

🌍 Dragons in Action: 𝗚𝗘𝗖𝗠𝗨𝗡 𝗫𝗜🏛️ KISJ proudly hosted the 11th edition of 𝗚𝗘𝗖𝗠𝗨𝗡 bringing together 𝟯𝟱𝟬 𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝟭𝟲 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀 𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝟲 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 at the 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫! In celebration of International Women's Day, KISJ held a 𝘏𝘢𝘦𝘯𝘺𝘦𝘰 𝘚𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺 𝘏𝘰𝘶𝘳 during a school assembly. A local Haenyeo shared her personal experiences with our students, offering insight into the powerful and independent community of Jeju female divers. Recognized as a 𝗨𝗡𝗘𝗦𝗖𝗢 Intangible Cultural Heritage, Haenyeo are known for their remarkable skill in harvesting shellfish from up to 10 meters below the ocean’s surface—without the use of oxygen masks. KISJ fosters Engaged Students as part of our school-wide Learning Outcomes. This event not only celebrated the extraordinary endurance and talent of the Haenyeo, but also provided students with diverse perspectives and a deeper understanding of the local community. A big thank you to our students C. Oh, J. Kim, and S. Moon, from the HS Library's School Library Advisory Board (SLAB), who worked alongside their librarians to organize this event. In addition, a special thanks to C. Kang for her thoughtful and impactful introduction of our Haenyeo speaker, and to H. Bae and J. 🔬 AP Bio Genetics Lab: Solving the Mystery with Science! 🧬 AP Biology students stepped into the shoes of forensic scientists in an exciting murder mystery lab. Using Gel Electrophoresis, students were given DNA samples from a crime scene and suspects, and tasked with solving the case. 🕵️♂️🧪 By injecting the DNA into special gels and running an electrical current through them, the students watched as the DNA traveled along the gel. Smaller DNA fragments moved faster, while larger ones took their time. The resulting bands created unique patterns that helped the students identify which suspect’s DNA matched the crime scene, bringing them closer to solving the mystery! 🔍 But the learning didn’t stop there. Each group was assigned a different genetics test to run next, from 𝐃𝐍𝐀 𝐔𝐕 𝐝𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐂𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐆𝐌𝐎 𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚 𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐜 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐲𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 (𝐏𝐂𝐑) run. Using PCR, they made millions of copies of their DNA samples to prepare for the next round of Gel Electrophoresis and analyze their results. As part of their final task, students will present their findings to the class, explaining their tests and relating them to what they’ve learned in the course.
