Audrey Akcasu, Grade 5

 

Audrey Akcasu is from Ann Arbor, Michigan in the US. She holds a master’s degree in Elementary Education from University of Michigan and a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from Occidental College. Audrey joined KISJ in 2020. 

I think everyone should read To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee.

Outside of school, I most enjoy being outside, especially rock climbing.

 I’m inspired by the power of nature and children’s imaginations.

 

Elliot Howe,  Grade 5 

 

Elliot Howe is originally from Oshkosh, Wisconsin but now calls Canada home.  Most recently, he worked in Kuwait.  He holds a bachelor's degree in Marketing from The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, and a bachelor's degree in Education from Western University in Ontario.  Elliot joined KISJ in 2021.  

I think everyone should read A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson.  

Outside of school, I most enjoy cooking, spending time with my family, and sports.

I'm inspired by my daughters and wife because everyday is a new adventure with them.

 

Amy Hiser, Grade 5

 

Amy Hiser is from Vero Beach, Florida, USA, but most recently worked in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. She holds a master’s degree in Elementary Education and a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education both from the University of Florida. Amy joined KISJ in 2020.

I think everyone should read Have you Filled a Bucket Today by Carol McCloud.

Outside of school, I most enjoy running, eating delicious food, and spending time with friends.

I’m inspired by people who create great music.

 

Michael Kmety, Grade 5

 

Michael Kmety is from Midlothian, Illinois, USA, but most recently worked in Elkhart, Indiana, USA. He holds a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Eastern Illinois University. Michael joined KISJ in 2022.

 

I think everyone should read the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling.

 

Outside of school, I most enjoy spending time with my wife and traveling.

 

I'm inspired by the stories from the people that I meet.

 

Kent Luu, Literacy Specialist Grade 5

 

Kent Luu is from San Jose, California, USA, but most recently worked in Penang, Malaysia, and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. He holds a master's degree in Second Language Acquisition from The College of New Jersey, and a bachelor's degree in English Language Learner Studies from Ashford University. Kent joined KISJ in 2021.

I think everyone should read The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien and Into the Wild by John Krakauer.

Outside of school, I most enjoy rock climbing, trail running, basketball, photography, DIY projects, and spending time in nature. 

I'm inspired by Bruce Lee and his philosophies on the process of continuous growth and self-improvement.
