Grade 1 Faculty

 

 

Kate Wolff, Grade 1

Kate is from the United States, but most recently worked in Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates. She has also taught in central Honduras, Seoul, and in Colorado in the US. She holds a master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Denver, and a bachelor's degree in Peace and Justice Studies from Wellesley College. Kate joined KISJ in 2020. 

I think everyone should read Conscious Discipline by Dr. Becky Bailey and A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood by Fred Rogers.

Outside of school, I most enjoy hiking, playing piano, listening to podcasts, trivia and game nights, and spending time reading with my family. 

I'm inspired by people who are experts in their field and can convey information through stories. 

 

 

Silvia Turk, Grade 1 

Silvia Turk is from Bogota, Colombia, but most recently worked in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire. She holds a master's degree in Elementary Education from the University of Alabama, and a bachelor's degree in Psychology and Sociology from Boston College. Silvia joined KISJ in 2021. 

I think everyone should read Exclamation Mark by Amy Krouse Rosenthal. 

Outside of school, I most enjoy baking, reading, traveling, drinking good coffee, and spending time with my husband and dog.

I'm inspired by kindness and people who overcome obstacles.

 

 

Janna Allooh, Grade 1

 

Janna Allooh is from Phoenix, Arizona but most recently worked in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. She holds a master's degree in Early Childhood Education from Northern Arizona University and a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Northern Arizona University as well. Janna joined KISJ in 2019.

I think everyone should read Love You Forever by Robert Munsch, as it teaches the value of love and family.

Outside of school, I most enjoy hiking, yoga, Kona coffee, and a good book.

I'm inspired by beauty in the world and selfless people. 

 

Karen Tennant, Grade 1 

 

Karen Tennant is from Brockville, Ontario Canada but most recently worked in Cape Town, South Africa. She holds a bachelor of education degree in elementary teaching and a bachelor of arts degree in second language teaching from The University of Ottawa. Karen joined KISJ in 2022.

 

I think everyone should read Oh The Places You Will Go by Dr. Seuss.

 

Outside of school, I most enjoy running and swimming or just being outside in nature.

 

I'm inspired by having creative conversations and sharing ideas with others.

 

 

Madeleine Fivaz, Literacy Specialist Grade 1

 

Madeleine Fivaz is from Virginia, Free State, South Africa.  She holds a bachelor’s degree in Human Movement Science from the University of the Free State, and completed her Postgraduate Certificate in Education through the University of South Africa.  Madeleine joined KISJ in 2017.

I think everyone should read for a chance to be inspired.

Outside of school, I most enjoy traveling to unknown places, camping next to the ocean, hiking through untouched nature, and paddle boarding on open water.  I also enjoy being in good company, having fun and watching movies.

I’m inspired by an act of kindness in a sea of humanity.

 

(Dana) Sunyoung Ahn,  Teaching  Assistant Grade 1

 

(Dana) Sun Young Ahn was born in Seoul, Korea and raised in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. She holds a Bachelor of Social Welfare and Human Development & Family Studies from Duksung Women's University. Dana joined KISJ in 2017.

I think everyone should read I Decided to Love As Me by Kim Soo Hyun.

Outside of school, I most enjoy watching movies and some TV programs.

I'm inspired by my family and travel.
