Governance of KISJ
South Korea’s first international boarding school
Korea International School, Jeju Campus (KIS) welcomed its first students in Seoul in 2000, beginning an education dedicated to helping students grow into the thinkers, innovators, and leaders of tomorrow.
Opened in 2006 with the authorization of the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education, the KIS Pangyo campus has grown into one of Korea’s leading international schools, carrying forward KIS’s educational philosophy and operational experience.
Built on this foundation, KIS Jeju opened in 2011 in the Jeju Global Education City as South Korea’s first international boarding school. Established in close partnership with the Jeju Provincial Office of Education, KIS Jeju has grown into a global learning community, sending some 1,000 graduates on to universities and communities around the world since its first senior class of 52 students in May 2016.

MOST TRANSFORMATIVE SCHOOL
years of history
KIS Jeju operates under its School Regulations, established pursuant to the Special Act on the Establishment of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province and the Development of Free International City and the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Ordinance on the Establishment and Operation of International Schools.
Every decision the school makes places students’ learning and growth first, pursuing a governance that realizes both educational autonomy and public accountability.
In accordance with the School Regulations, the school is organized under the Head of School, the School Director, the divisional principals, and the faculty and staff.
The Head of School oversees school administration and academic operations, while the School Director manages academic affairs and represents the school under the delegation of the Head of School.
The Elementary, Middle, and High School divisional principals lead learning closest to our students, and all members of the school work together toward one shared goal — the growth of every student. Through ongoing communication with the Parents Association, the school also brings the diverse voices of its community into school operations.
YBM, the parent company of the KIS brand schools, has led English education in Korea for more than sixty years. Its long-standing educational expertise and stable foundation allow KIS Jeju to stay focused on students’ growth and the essence of education amid a changing educational landscape.
The educational philosophy that began in Seoul in 2000 continues today, through Pangyo, here on Jeju. KIS Jeju will continue to believe in the potential of every student and to grow as an educational community nurturing future leaders for the global stage.
