Schoolwide Faculty

Brian Sylvester is originally from the Gulf Coast of Texas in the United States, though today he considers Italy his home. While living in Texas, Mr. Sylvester earned his Juris Doctor and became licensed to practice law. After moving to China in 2016, Mr. Sylvester transitioned his career into international school counseling, where he has helped students across East Asia pursue academic and personal success. Mr. Sylvester is a certified school counselor and holds a Master’s degree in International School Counseling from Lehigh University. He is excited to join the Korea International School Jeju community in the 2026–2027 school year.

As a self-proclaimed Tolkien fanatic, Mr. Sylvester would recommend reading “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit” by J. R. R. Tolkien. He believes there may be more truths to be gleaned from Middle-earth than most people realize. Mr. Sylvester also enjoys reading political non-fiction, such as “Freedom” by Angela Merkel, which helps him understand the political complexities of our time.

Outside of school, Mr. Sylvester enjoys cooking delicious meals, studying the Italian language, drinking large quantities of good coffee, and hiking through the beautiful scenery that nature provides.

Mr. Sylvester is inspired by cultural diversity and the ways international communities help broaden perspectives and deepen understanding of the world.
