“Synergetic collaboration and creativity are hallmarks of our High School. Transformative thinking and the ability to thrive in challenging circumstances will distinguish KISJ graduates.”

Curriculum Overview

Our High School supports low ratios, cross-divisional mentoring, service learning and leading, project-based approaches, and time for reflection. KISJ High School students take a typical college-preparatory class load with a modified-block schedule of 4 classes per day and can challenge themselves through  Advanced Placement® courses, as well as visual and performing arts. We currently offer 25 AP® courses, including:

We use American Education Reaches Out (AERO) standards, which adapt American standards, to serve the needs of multi-national student bodies as sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Office of Overseas Schools. We carefully design our curriculum to challenge our students, support their English language learning  and purposefully use 1:1 learning. Our structure and curriculum provide students with opportunities to develop collaborative skills; provide a space for project-based learning; and embed critical thinking and problem solving. This standards-based approach ensures that the comprehension of key concepts and the building of important skills remain the central focus for our students.

Advanced Placement Program®

Since 1955 the College Board’s Advanced Placement program has offered students worldwide an opportunity to take college-level courses while still in high school. Students who are successful in their examinations each May can then use their scores to stand out in college admissions, earn college credits, and/or skip introductory classes at university.

In addition to the content-specific AP offerings, KIS  is proud to offer the AP Capstone™ program, a skills-based curriculum designed to prepare students for college-level writing and research. The program is composed of the G11 Seminar course and the G12 Research course, and successful completion of these courses plus four additional AP courses leads to the prestigious AP Capstone Diploma™. We are very proud to be the only school on Jeju to offer our students the opportunity to achieve this respected academic credential which is available to students in 650 schools in the US as well as a few select schools internationally.
