Elementary School Principal

Jim French is from Emo, Ontario, Canada. Mr. French holds a Master of Arts in Teaching from Xavier University, a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Webster University, and a K-12 Principal Certificate from the state of New Jersey. Mr. French joined KISJ in the 2015-2016 academic year.

Mr. French feels everyone should read "Creative Schools" by Ken Robinson.

Outside of school, Mr. French enjoys exploring the world and the beauty it holds with his family.

Mr. French is inspired by the wonder in students’ eyes every morning as they come to school ready for a new day.

Eric Rosenthal is from Kingston, New York, but worked in China before joining KISJ. Mr. Rosenthal has a master’s degree in Education from "The College of New Jersey", and a bachelor’s degree in English, Literature, and Rhetoric from "Binghamton University." Mr. Rosenthal joined KISJ in the 2017-2018 academic year.

Mr. Rosenthal would recommend that everyone read "A Separate Peace" by John Knowles and "The Grapes of Wrath" by John Steinbeck.

Outside of school, Mr. Rosenthal enjoys spending time with his family, running, hiking, reading, playing sports and traveling.

Mr. Rosenthal is inspired by great stories, camping trips, his students and other teachers.

Emily Sonneland is from Sun Valley, Idaho but more recently has been living and working in Seattle, Washington and Seoul, South Korea. Ms. Sonneland holds a degree in Elementary Education from Whitworth University. Ms. Sonneland joined KISJ in 2023-2024 academic year.

Ms. Sonneland would recommend that everyone read "Joyful: The Aesthetics of Joy" by Ingrid Fetell Lee.

Outside of school, Ms. Sonneland enjoys making pottery, reading, baking, and all things pop culture.

Ms. Sonneland is inspired by others and hearing about their joys and passions.

Elementary School Librarian

Keli Butame is from Accra, Ghana, and has spent the last few years traversing the globe - most recently living in San José, Costa Rica. Ms. Butame joined KISJ in the 2024-2025 academic year.

Ms. Butame has a Masters of Library and Information Studies from the University of British Columbia (Vancouver, Canada) and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Occidental College (Los Angeles, U.S.A.).

Outside of school, Ms. Butame enjoys making (and eating!) delicious food, as well as crafts like crochet and needlepoint.

Ms. Butame is inspired by the similarities and differences between all of us who share this planet and the connections that can form between people.

Elementary School Counselor (JK to Grade 2)

Hannah Dawson is originally from Santa Barbara, California but considers herself a Pacific Northwesterner, having spent her formative years in Oregon. Ms. Dawson completed her Master's degree in School Counseling and a Bachelor degree in Psychology from Portland State University. Prior to joining KISJ, Ms. Dawson has worked as an elementary school counselor in Doha, Qatar and Tokyo. Ms. Dawson joined KISJ in the 2025-2026 school year.

Outside of school, Ms. Dawson loves exploring the outdoors, trying new restaurants, connecting with animals (humans and the furry kind), staying active, and flexing her creativity in new ways.

Ms. Dawson is inspired by children, whose fresh perspectives often challenge her own worldview, as well as by individuals who are committed to continuous growth and self-improvement.

Reanna Nelson is originally from Minnesota, in the United States, but was working on Jeju Island prior to joining KISJ. Ms. Nelson has a Master's degree in School Counseling from the University of Massachusetts - Boston, and a Bachelor's degree in Studio Art from the College of St. Benedict. Ms. Nelson joined KISJ in the 2026-2027 school year.

Ms. Nelson would recommend that everyone read "Thrivers" by Michele Borba and "Never Let Me Go" by Kazuo Ishiguro.

Outside of school, Ms. Nelson enjoys playing ultimate frisbee and volleyball, trying new restaurants and coffee shops, baking, and exploring the Olle trails.

Ms. Nelson is inspired by kindness, creativity, and individuals who are authentically themselves.

Elementary School Learning Support Specialist

Tina Wolter is from Avery, California in the United States. Ms. Wolter has taught at many schools in Calaveras County in California for twenty-five plus (25+) years, Singapore and Dubai prior to joining KISJ. She earned her Bachelor's degree from CSU, Fresno in Deaf Education and a Master's degree from CSU, Sacramento in Special Education. Ms. Wolter joined KISJ for the 2026-2027 school year.

Ms. Wolter is an avid audio book listener. Her favorite books in the last year were: 1) "Beautiful Ugly" by Alice Feeney; 2) "The Pearl That Broke Its Shell" by Nadia Hashimi; 3) "Broken Country" by Clare Leslie Hall. Ms. Wolter believes that every girl should read "The Paper Bag Princess" by by Robert Munsch. And … this is only a snippet of her book list.

Ms. Wolter is a "foodie". She loves trying new food and enjoys cooking. She is looking forward to returning to travel and exploring new countries. Ms. Wolter enjoys spending time outdoors and walking/hiking/trekking.

Ms. Wolter is inspired by kind people who are courageous and delicious food.

Gabby Chapa is originally from Beeville, Texas, in the United States, but was working in San Antonio, Texas prior to joining KISJ. Ms. Chapa has a Master's degree in Reading from Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi and a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Baylor University. Ms. Chapa joined KISJ in the 2026-2027 academic year.

Reilly Greene is from Colorado Springs, Colorado in the United States. Before joining KISJ, Ms. Greene worked in Kathmandu, Nepal. Ms. Greene has a Bachelor's degree in Inclusive Elementary Education and a minor in American Sign Language from the University of Colorado. Ms. Greene joined KISJ in the 2023-2024 school year.

Outside of school, Ms. Greene most enjoys finding different ways to exercise, trying new foods, and spending time with friends at the beach.

Molly Prevost is from Rainy River, Ontario, Canada. She has most recently worked in Doha, Qatar as a Kindergarten and Pre-Kindergarten Teacher. Prior to moving overseas, Molly was a Kindergarten and grade 3/4 homeroom teacher in Manitoba, Canada.

Molly holds a Bachelor of Education from Brandon University and a Bachelor of English Literature from the University of Manitoba.

Away from work, Molly enjoys participating in musical theatre, exercising, gardening, and figure skating.

Anna Ji Hee Moon is from Jeju Island, South Korea. Prior to joining KISJ, Ms. Moon worked at international schools in the Philippines and Beijing, China. Ms. Moon studied English Literature and is currently completing a TESOL course. Ms. Moon joined KISJ in the 2019-2020 school year.

Ms. Moon would recommend that everyone read “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” by Jeff Kinney and “Lean in” by Sheryl Sandberg.

Outside of school, Ms. Moon most enjoys reading, traveling around the world and going to the movies.

Janna Allooh is from Phoenix, Arizona but most recently worked in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. She holds a master's degree in Early Childhood Education from Northern Arizona University and a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Northern Arizona University as well. Janna joined KISJ in 2019.

I think everyone should read Love You Forever by Robert Munsch, as it teaches the value of love and family. Outside of school, I most enjoy hiking, yoga, Kona coffee, and a good book.

I'm inspired by beauty in the world and selfless people.

Theresa Nguyen is from Austin, Texas in the United States but has spent most of her recent years teaching in Okinawa, Japan. Ms. Nguyen has a Bachelor's degree in Applied Learning and Development from the University of Texas at Austin. Ms. Nguyen also has a specialized certification in intervention with vulnerable children and is certified to teach ESL and all subject areas from Early Childhood through to Grade 6. Ms. Nguyen joined KISJ in the 2024-2025 school year.

Ms. Nguyen would recommend that everyone read “Glass Castle” by Jeannette Walls and “Crying in H-Mart” by Michelle Zauner.

Outside of school, Ms. Nguyen enjoys reading, baking, running, going to nice cafes, and spending time with friends.

Madeleine Fivaz is from Virginia, Free State, South Africa. Ms. Fivaz has a Bachelor degree in Human Movement Science from the University of the Free State, as well as a Postgraduate Certificate in Education from the University of South Africa. Ms. Fivaz joined KISJ in the 2017-2018 school year.

Ms. Fivaz would recommend that everyone read for a chance to be inspired.

Outside of school, Ms. Fivaz enjoys traveling to unknown places, camping next to the ocean, hiking through untouched nature, and paddle boarding on open water. She also enjoys being in good company, having fun and watching movies.

Kylie holds a Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) from Avondale University in Cooranbong, Australia and has many years of experience teaching students in the middle-elementary grade levels.

Away from work, Kylie enjoys watching Korean and Chinese dramas, riding her bicycle, and drinking coffee.

Kylie is inspired by anything or anyone that succeeds through adversity; people who keep trying when everything is working against them and it seems like failure is ahead .

Margaret Socha is from Toronto, Ontario in Canada but she has also lived and taught in Taiwan, South Korea, England, and Poland. Ms. Socha has a Master’s degree inTeaching from the University of Toronto, and a Bachelor's degree in English and Humanities from York University. Ms. Socha has additional qualifications in teaching English and Mathematic, as well as in supporting students in special education and reading. Ms. Socha joined KISJ in the 2025-2026 school year.

Ms. Socha would recommend that everyone read “The Overstory” by Richard Powers.

Outside of school, Ms. Socha enjoys hiking, cycling, and running to stay active. She also loves cooking international dishes and exploring cafes and restaurants.

Heather Barnstead is originally from Manitoba, Canada, but has also lived in Japan, the United Kingdom, Andorra, and Qatar. Ms. Barnstead has a Master’s degree in International Education with an ESL specialization from Endicott College; a Master’s of Science degree in Multidisciplinary Studies from SUNY; a Professional Certificate in Structured Teaching Intervention in Literacy and Dyslexia from Dyslexia Action; and, a Bachelor of Education from the University of Winnipeg. Ms. Barnstead joined KISJ in the 2019-2020 school year.

Ms. Cameron would recommend that everyone read “Have You Filled a Bucket Today? - A Guide to Daily Happiness for Kids” by Carol McCloud.

Outside of school, Ms. Cameron enjoys spending time outdoors, specifically hiking, mountain biking and kayaking.

Outside of school, I most enjoy nature, reading, sewing, spending time with family and eating spicy korean food with friends.

I am inspired by people like the skater Yuna Kim who never give up on their dreams.

Kelly holds a Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction, focused in Teaching English as a Second Language from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from the same university.

Away from work, Kelly enjoys being in nature, drinking delicious coffee, journaling, and spending time with her husband.

Michelle Lee is from Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. For the past five years, Michelle has been working in Europe, most recently in Haarlem in the Netherlands as well as in Brussels, Belgium. Michelle has also lived and studied in Seoul, South Korea.

Michelle holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Education from Queen's University, with a specialization in International Education.

Away from work, Michelle enjoys exploring the world through travel, cafe-hopping for the best matcha, indoor climbing, learning new languages and working on self-development.

Ellie Kim has been living in sunny Florida, teaching music, and leading various music clubs while also working as a composer, arranger, and band musician. Ms. Kim has lived in Europe, Korea, and the United States and she brings a global perspective to music and education. Ms. Kim holds a Master’s degree in Music Composition in Film Scoring from New York University and Bachelor degrees in Music Composition and Recording Arts from Yonsei University and Full Sail University. Ms. Kim is passionate about helping young musicians discover their unique musical voices. Ms. Kim joined KISJ in the 2025-2026 school year.

A passionate and innovative educator with over six years of classroom experience, Ms. Sanders has dedicated her career to creating hands-on, inquiry-driven learning environments that inspire curiosity and a love of learning in every student. She brings a wealth of expertise in STEM integration, project-based learning, and trauma-informed teaching, and is deeply committed to meeting the needs of diverse learners. Prior to joining KISJ, she most recently served as an Upper Elementary Montessori Teacher. Ms. Sanders joined KISJ in the 2025-2026 school year.
