Advanced Placement Program®
Since 1955 the College Board’s Advanced Placement program has offered students worldwide an opportunity to take college-level courses while still in high school. Students who are successful in their examinations each May can then use their scores to stand out in college admissions, earn college credits, and/or skip introductory classes at university.
Advanced Placement® (AP) Courses
AP classes allow students to engage in a demanding curriculum equivalent to an entry-level college/university course. The College Board outlines key components of AP coursework as:
Covering the breadth of information, skills and assignments found in corresponding college courses
Aligning with the standards and expectations of leading liberal arts and research institutions
Providing motivated and academically prepared students with the opportunity to study and learn at the college level
A student looking to be successful in AP courses should:
Be a self-initiated and independent learner with a strong work ethic
Have an excellent English reading proficiency and the ability to learn academic subject vocabulary
Possess critical thinking skills necessary to perform in-depth, complex analysis-based assignments
Have the ability to work successfully as a group member in and out of the classroom
Maintain a sustained commitment to course assignment completion
Be willing to embrace learning for the sake of learning
AP Capstone™ Program
AP Capstone™ is a College Board program designed to equip students with the independent research, collaborative teamwork, and communication skills that are increasingly valued by colleges. It cultivates curious, independent, and collaborative scholars and prepares them to make logical, evidence-based decisions.
AP Capstone™ is based on two courses: The Grade 11 AP Seminar course and the Grade 12 AP Research course. Both are designed to complement and enhance the discipline-specific study in other AP courses. Completion and passing scores for both the Seminar and Research courses with passing scores on 4 additional AP courses/exams result in the awarding of the AP Capstone™ Diploma from the College Board, which many U.S. colleges and universities view favorably for admission and/or advanced standing.
The AP Capstone™ Program requires students to:
Analyze topics through multiple lenses to construct meaning or gain understanding.
Plan and conduct a study or investigation.
Propose solutions to real-world problems.
Plan and produce communication in various forms.
Collaborate to solve a problem.
Integrate, synthesize, and make cross-curricular connections.
AP International Diploma (APID)
The AP International Diploma (APID) is a globally recognized certificate awarded to students who display exceptional achievement across a variety of disciplines and is available to international students attending secondary schools outside the US. To receive the AP International Diploma a student must take at least five AP courses and earn a 3 or higher on all corresponding AP exams.
